2009-10 Mission Project - Mercy Ships

The Mission Project for 2008-9 was The Wellspring in Stockport which provides support to homeless people. The total raised by our Church for this project was more than £2,300. Thank you for your generous support.

It has been our practice to alternate home and overseas charities for our annual project. So, the Mission Project chosen for the year September 2009 - August 2010 is MERCY SHIPS. This charity provides hospital ships manned by multi-national volunteer medical staff who bring their expertise in treating injuries or deformities to some of the poorest people in developing countries. These life changing services are done free of charge. Operations to treat injuries, dental deformities such as cleft palate, often done on young children, blindness and many other urgent surgical needs are brought to the world’s poor. In land based projects, water engineers and agriculturalists take their expertise to bring life changing services to help the poorest countries, again free of charge.

Money from the Sunday coffee will raise funds for Mercy Ships, a representative has been invited to talk to Junior Church in September and there will be a special Sunday service in January with a speaker from the charity.

We are grateful to everyone for their support and know our congregation will again generously help this year's project. More information about their work will be displayed in church during the year and can also be found at www.mercyships.org.uk.
