Welcome to Marple & Jubilee Methodist Churches online!

Marple Methodist Church is a two site church in Stockport, Greater Manchester; we have one church building in Marple (Marple Methodist Church) and one in Marple Bridge/Compstall (Jubilee Methodist Church).

The church in Marple has a small to medium sized congregation (pre-covid average Sunday morning congregation of 40 - 60 with just over 100 members) and meets in quite a large church building. Jubilee has a small sized congregation (pre-covid average 20) and meets in Jubilee Methodist Church, Compstall.

Both churches have been closed since lockdown in March, but following the Government indicating that Churches could re-open for worship and other activities, we are both now preparing to re-open.

Marple's first service will be on 13th September, and, all being well, regular services, albeit in a somewhat changed format, will continue from then on.

If you are planning to come to any of the services in September please get in contact with Sarah Rose and let her know which service(s) you would like to come to. To begin with capacity at Marple is going to be restricted to 18 people and we will have to turn people away if more than that wish to attend.

Even if you are planning not to attend regular worship during September it would still be helpful if you could contact Sarah Rose and let her know your plans for returning to worship so that we can make suitable plans over the coming months.

As part of the re-opening process, each church is required by the government to complete a risk assessement detailing the anticipated risks of people returning to the building for worship and what controls will be put in place to minimise the risks. Both Marple and Jubilee have prepared such risk assessments and these are available via this website soon.

If you are intending to join us for one of the September services (and have let Sarah know) please be aware that these services will be somewhat different to what you may have been used to. In order to minimise risk of passing the virus on, it has been necessary to make the following adjustments:

  • Everyone attending will need to provide their contact details - either beforehand by contacting Sarah Rose, or at the door when they arrive if they havn't booked in already
  • Everyone will be asked to sanitise their hands on entry and on exit and to wear a mask inside the building unless they are exempt from doing so
  • There will be a limit of 18 people each Sunday (apart from preacher and stewards) and stewards will have to turn away anyone arriving once this limit has been reached. Obviously, the best option is to pre-book with Sarah Rose to avoid disappointment
  • We won't be able to have congregational hymn singing - but that won't stop us from using music during worship!
  • We won't be able to serve refreshements after the service and people will be encouraged to leave the building straight after the service has ended. However, if the weather is fine, you are welcome to hold conversations outside the church - as long as you continue to maintain a distance of at least 2 metres from others
  • Services will be kept short - to further reduce time we are in contact with each other
  • Only one toilet (the disabled toilet) will be in operation. Both the Ladies and the Gents toilets will be closed. You may need to queue to use the toilet - in which case please ensure that you continue to keep 2 metres away from others.
